The Ministry of Employment and Labor(MOEL) (Minister: Lee Jung-Sik) will proceed with prompt entry of
immigrant workers.
In order to resolve labor shortages caused by the pandemic, the Ministry will first bring in more than 26,000
immigrant workers by August, who have not been able to enter the country over the past two years, due to
the COVID-19 pandemic.
In addition, the Ministry will work on the entry of 28,000 immigrant workers this year, who received work
permits but were not able to travel to the country.
As a result, a total of more than 73,000 immigrant workers are expected to arrive in South Korea by the
end of this year.
To this end, MOEL, in cooperation with the Ministry of Justice, expanded the validity period of the visa
issuance confirmation certificate for employers of immigrant workers from the current six months to one
year.
MOEL will also increase non-scheduled flights in cooperation with the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and
Transport, and operate aircraft according to demand from July this year.
Minister of Employment and Labor Lee Jung-Sik said, “Considering serious labor shortages in small- and
medium-sized enterprises and agricultural and fishing villages, we will make efforts to address obstacles at
home and abroad to ensure prompt entry of immigrant workers into South Korea.
