At around 14:00 on Tuesday, November 15, Minister of Employment and Labor Lee Jung Sik made a
surprise visit to CGV Cheongdam Cine City and heard on-site voices.
At a time when the public’s sensitivity to safety has increased due to the recent Itaewon incident, he looked
into the working environment of young people working in theaters and the safety management status prior
to the winter season, which will see much crowd in theaters.
Minister Lee said, “No matter how perfect a manual is, it is useless if no one implements it,” stressing,
“Protecting the working environment for workers at theaters including the observation of legal working
hours and rest hours is directly related to the safety of the audience.”
He added, “The government's top priority is to fully protect the safety of the public in their daily lives, and
further strengthen safety management of workplaces such as multi-use facilities.”
Accordingly, the Ministry of Employment and Labor plans to conduct on-site guidance and
inspection of major multiplex cinemas in Korea to protect working conditions for young people going
forward.
